My drag was a cross between Celine Dion and Britney Spears. Weird, I know. I was a skinny little thing, wore size zero in girl clothes and size eleven girl shoes. I didn't bother padding, my makeup was minimal to make the illusion appear more natural, and my wigs were freaking expensive even though they were purchased from a wig store at the nearby outlet mall. The shaving of body hair was a pain, but tucking wasn't so difficult.
I enjoyed performing, but only did it for a short while. I mainly stopped because the boyfriend wasn't fond of it. I wasn't that deeply invested, it wasn't something I wanted to keep doing inevitably, and the experience of exploring it for a bit was satisfying enough.
The most I ever did drag-wise, if you could call it that, was one time as a 'Trekette'... basically fake/air guitaring as part of a Star Trek charity event. It wasn't real drag though... not glamorous, just a Boris Johnson/moplike wig and no makeup as far as I can remember, and I felt very uncomfortable.
It's only since then that I've learned more about it from watching, and thoroughly enjoying, RuPaul's Drag Race, so now I think at least once in my life I'd like to do it for real... as an experiment and as an exercise in empathy. Still have no idea how tucking's supposed to work though?!?
