I've used that argument for several years now on multiple forums. Consciousness requires brain activity of approximately 5 Hz or higher, and with lower-frequency delta waves there is no awareness of our surroundings. My argument is essentially "If the soul can't keep you aware of yourself and your surroundings when you're in slow-wave dreamless sleep, why should we assume that awareness is possible at all when the brain has died and all brainwave activity has stopped?"
