We got used to Hubble's amazing pics. We know they were and still are good. Plus, Hubble takes pics in the visible domain.
JWST is dedicated to Infrared, so it's looking at something different from the same place. It also has a 20 year younger sensor and has a much higher pixel count. It's supposed to look better. And that's what we got.
I think it's important to show "this was the best we could get before this new telescope" next to the new result now that we're getting the first few images.

Maybe we should do a three-way comparison: a ground based picture, a Hubble picture, and a Webb picture. Hubble blew the ground based pics out of the water. Webb will do the same for the Hubble pics.
This is how we learn.
