Many religions over the millenia have believed in a god of some sort, but no afterlife, including many following various varieties of Judaism and perhaps even Christianity (at least early forms of such). Not sure about Islam, as I know very little about it.
Even if it was granted as true, and even if god were proven to exist, the question would still remain of whether or not said afterlife would be something desirable.
