Because of this, modern orientalist scholars of Islam (Nöldeke, Montgomery Watt, to name a few) reject this diagnosis. The prophet PBUH's revelations are truly a mystery, and they are overall better explained by appeal to a supernatural cause.
I stand by my claim that I made almost 4 years ago -- seizures are episodic. When such things were not well understood, all manner of embellishments took place.
