Frankly, at this point, if we’re going to do things like electing Trump as President, we probably were never ready to handle independence. Hell, if Trump had won the last election, I seriously considered running my own third party on a “vote for me, we rejoin the UK” ticket.

American politics is so messed up simply because it retained quite a bit of the English political system. Granted the UK improved their system more over the intervening years, but not by that much looking at who's run the country for the last forty odd years.

And the sad thing is, even as crap as the British Conservative Party is, it's still less dangerous than the Republican Party.
