I've never been able to get into the royal thing, myself. The stuffiness, inbreeding and enforced formality was never my thing. I just cringe at how it was the worst form of government ever conceived and am very grateful we have largely evolved out of it.

The capitalist in me can appreciate the fact that the silly royals in GB apparently have managed to bring in more tourist money than has been expended on them. They have turned a profit. I don't begrudge the Brits that. Good for them. Just don't pretend any of the royals are any more special than Paris Hilton or Kim Kardashian.

Bolded mine, this bit is pretty much a lie, because a) the royal family costs the state billions per year all told (it's hard to quantify because they are above the law, most laws don't apply to them), and b) other countries earn more tourist dough from their royal families while having no royals, France being the standout example.

As a Brit my attitude to the Royals is simply to ignore 'em.

And the sad thing is, even as crap as the British Conservative Party is, it's still less dangerous than the Republican Party.

I confess to being puzzled as to why USians have such strong feelings (for and against) the British monarchy.

Firstly, it’s not your country or your king, why do you even care? You’re not subject to it, you’re not paying for it - why does it matter so much?

Secondly, there are scads of other hereditary monarchies in the world, but no Yanks seem to get themselves all twisted up over places like Spain or Norway or Jordan.

And for OLB specifically, of COURSE you as an American, wouldn’t be expected to call King Charles ‘your Highness’ (the proper form of address is ‘Your Majesty’).
