You've got me all figured out, Nudge. I remember 15 or 20 years ago watching this whacky lady who was supposedly called an expert on conspiracy theorists, saying that 9/11 truthers believe what they do because they want it to be true. That they want to believe that everything is under control, and that nothing just happens by happenstance. That they want to believe that there is an order to the world. Are you getting your arguments from her, Nudge? No, 9/11 truthers do not want a one world cabal knocking down towers, anti-Semites do not yearn to be ruled over by a Jewish Cabal, and I myself do not want the government to be censoring social media online. And hey, if you'd like, we can go on pretending that free speech still exists, since I suppose it does on a technical level, since these companies are willingly working with government officials in the censorship, and since the government isn't locking people up for speech. Freedom of speech lives on. Nothing to worry about. Things are looking fine and dandy. You want, as we all want, not to feel like a simpleton, not to be a loon, not to have been taken advantage of, not to have sunk whatever good will and credibility you ever had into garbage.
I see you keep talking. Freely.
I took the red pill a long time ago, and once that veil is removed, there is no putting it back up. If people want to live under the illusion that government only has positive motives like the author of that blog post Helios presented to me, then they are free to live with their eyes shut, but I've seen too much. I know too much. You know all of those people online who say they were in Q Anon or a 9/11 truther and they got de-radicalized? Well, these are people that just went from one extreme to another. They went from thinking Cheney or Jews knocked down the towers and Hillary eats babies, to thinking government is to be trusted and no conspiracies ever exist. That's because these type of people, which you want me to become and you probably cheer on because they've repented for their ways, are severely flawed in their thinking, and are easily persuaded by bad arguments. They didn't come into the belief that Hillary eats babies based on evidence, just like they weren't de-radicalized based on evidence. They went from one form of stupid to another. That's not the sort of thing to be applauded, even though it is good overall that they are no longer a part of Q Anon or the 9/11 truthers or whatever. I will never be one of those de-radicalized people. I will remain a radicalized centrist, who has a little bit of common sense and knows that Hillary does not eat babies, but nor is she a good person without bad motives. The truth is usually always somewhere in the middle.
I'm in Canada. We've never had free speech and never will, and I don't care to partake in fantasies about a future utopia where we do have it. I accept things for how they are.
I'm typing somewhat freely here, sure, but if I posted that Intercept article in a different thread than a conspiracy theory thread, there's a good chance a certain mod would flip their lid and move it, as they did before when I posted completely legitimate news about FOIA act request releases, and many other things of that nature. Not that this has anything to do with what we were just talking about though, since this is a forum and they can do whatever they want. It's worse when Social Media companies do this, as people running those companies have said they believe in the spirit of free speech and want their platforms to represent those ideals, and then they go and censor things because government and police tell them to. It can be argued that these social media sites are basically the same as public utilities. And these social media companies attempt to alter the results of democratic elections. Again, with the Hunter Biden thing, the social media companies are now trying to save face publicly and have apologized for censoring the Hunter story and they say they regret it, and this did not end up costing Trump the election as it turns out since Biden won so big, but Social Media companies having the ability to possibly swing an election at the government or deep states behest should be seen as majorly problematic.
