To work around the Sunday obligation...I remember when it became okay to attend mass on Saturday night. Then go out to eat, get drunk, and sleep in on Sunday.
This was after they got rid of the Latin mass and added the absolutely disgusting Folk Mass. Of course, that was at 10 so there was a chance to sleep off the effects of the night before going to hear a bunch of crappy musicians play crappy music.
I actually preferred the pipe organ and choir to that stuff.
I also remember the no meat on Fridays years. We tended to go for tuna casserole (as fish was okay) or mac and cheese.
It was curious to me that these most sacrosanct of Catholic rules got changed around.
