Would you go to a 16 year old for advice on making your life choices? I wouldn't.

Yes, I would and I don't care that you wouldn't.

They haven't lived any life on their own and haven't gained the maturity required to make those decisions. 

Actually, they have and are trusted with various decisions and it's condescending to assume that due to age they lack wisdom.

Maybe you think a 16 year old can fully grasp the consequences of removing his genitals or of taking hormones to alter her natural bodily development, but I don't.

I think 16-year-old understand themselves as well as anyone else and I don't really care that you don't. Plus no 16-year-old is doing either of those things.

I think it could it be devastating for life to leave a decision like that in their hands.

Again I don't care what you think. I think they are more than able to make that choice themselves.

 Let them go into then world and experience it on their own before making a decision that they must deal with for life.

Nope, they have dealt with life plenty and can make the decision themselves.
