My name is Rory and I am slowly converting over to atheism. My journey ready began in 3rd grade when I received first communion and how weird it was to eat the “body” of someone.
My atheism picked up in undergrad when I came out as gay. I have cerebral palsy as well and it didn’t make sense to me to be hurt even further by punishing me for my sexuality. I still felt a lot of shame around my sexuality even after I came out and that came from my belief in heaven that I was hanging onto. I subconsciously still wanted to know what life would have been like without a disability which is what the idea of “heaven” provided.
I’m slowly accepting I probably will never know what it’s like to be “able-bodied” but I can embrace what I do have already. I’m very into philosophy so I thought about nihilism and how depressing and inspiring it is. If life has no external meaning, then we get to make our own meaning, which is more personal to us.
I hope I get to meet other amazing people on this forum!
