The younger brother of a friend got sent to military school.  From Catholic schools to military schools...the mom preferred her oldest and youngest.  That held true all through his life.  I was threatened with an all girls school but I don't think I would have really been sent there as I had never been in trouble with the law and was a decent student.   My mom preferred my younger sister and brother and wanted to get rid of me.  I'd probably have been safer than I was at home.

As someone who's read and seen quite a bit about the Troubled Teen Industry, all I can say is you're lucky that you were likely too old for them. At least the Military Schools are actually teaching shit. At least they're regulated. At least their rules aren't designed to give the people in charge any excuse to punish them. And, from my understanding, kids sent to military schools don't get there by being kidnapped in the middle of the fucking night.

Elan in particular seems like the sort of school that, if I were to choose between it and Dachau, I'd be fucking pleading to be gassed. Not to trivialise the horrors of Nazi Germany, but if I have to choose between a group that wants me dead, and one that cares just enough about my well-being to not kill me and not one tittle more, I know what I'd pick.
