The general consensus has been that there are over 100k casualties on either side. The main disparity is likely in the rates of wia and kia, with russia having well documented trouble both in collecting and treating their wounded. On some level, it's a motivation issue. Ukraine will go to extreme lengths, all the way to acknowledged suicide missions, to retrieve their heroes. Russia, otoh, seems uninterested in doing the same for it's proxies, convicts, and suckers.
Ukraine, for it's part, is probably just doing envelope math for kias. They assume russian wounded to russian dead is something like one for one (western intel has it set even worse, actually). They assume a busted or abandoned tank was fully manned by a crew of three (soon to be four). With russia having lost a confirmed 2k tanks, that's between three and six thousand soldiers all by itself. Additionally, russia provides the inspiration for much of their reports. Russia says that unit A has x, y, and z. This may only exist on paper - but if ukraine smashes that unit in a strike, defense, or assault - they're counting whatever russia said they had as casualties.
