I moved my coffee maker to one of the wire shelving units that I use to store food, so it's over a bunch of canned goods with just a porous rubber mat underneath. I've been making a point of remembering to empty the pot anytime that it has coffee in it and I'm done with coffee for the day so that it doesn't overflow of a morning. This morning I hear this crinkling sound like that of snow or sleet striking a window. I had forgotten to empty the carafe. Fortunately, there wasn't much left in it, so there was only a small overflow which was confined to the warming plate.
