Not really. Ukraine had no problem scrapping much better tanks. Sending these things out is just a mechanized version of a meat assault and the consequences of that have been horrific for russia at every point in the conflict with no exceptions. The smart play would be to use those forces as defensive reserves..and even then, they'd still be a massive drain on the more capable weapons systems russia still has in theater.
This is going to sound silly, but..I mean...russia....but I think the decision to send those tanks wasn't based on any military concern. It was a political one. Ukraine had more tanks in ukraine than russia. The tanks they're sending don't need to work, or even be a credible threat if they did work - they just need to be there for messaging. Russians have been raised on complete fairytales about those tanks and what they can do, they're culturally potent. Additionally, they need to be seen sending more stuff. Period. Doesn't matter what stuff. Doesn't matter why. More stuff.
