Why did Communists promote Evolution?

It’s been said - with a lot of justification - that if extraterrestrials came to Earth and started classifying life, part of it would be:

Gorillas - the big apes

Orangutans - the red apes

Chimps - the smaller apes

Humans - the smooth apes

It’s no accident that every single method of classifying life on this planet - cladistics, genetics, morphology - places humans firmly among the apes. We aren’t just related to apes. We ARE apes.

We are so much apes that by the rules of taxonomy we should be of the Genus Pan. Homo is simply a sop to the religious to keep them from freaking out too much about what apes we actually are.
