It isn't a person. That said, people make up all kinds of shit, scientists or not. But the scientists eventually get their chops busted when they are wrong. The religious? There are so many excuses waiting in the wings for their turn that it's disgusting.
For one thing, science never proves anything. It just keeps making more and more implausible, for example, the claim the sky is a sheet of hammered metal, until not even believers believe it anymore and they are reduced to telling us the Hebrew word for firmament (raqa) meant vapor all along.
