You shouldn't deter religious people, you should encourage them to come.

you've nothing to lose and everything to gain by inviting great discussion.

at the end of the day you're both after meaning and truth - the discussions could cooperate to that end.  :-)

Maybe you could start with something that resembles great discussion.  That hasn't happened yet.

Debates - like WLC vs C Hitchens for example
Near death experiences - these are life changing for people - many seem to say they met god - so athiests, agnostics and thiest would find this valueable to discuss
Bible project which explains the bible from a christian expert - then people could discuss why they agree or disagree
... things like that

This thread, which was split a few pages in - is currently 13th in the list by reply rate.  
The greatest reply rates are from really old threads
(  1) 10yr old thread, 2) 9yr old thread, 3) 1.5 yr old thread, 4) 4yrs, 5) 11yrs it's basically ongoing admin, 6) 5, 7) 1, 8) 4, 9) 2, 10) 2, 11) 3,) 

It seems to me that this thread is getting a fair amount of action - it seems the place would go quiet again when i leave????
