So 90% of the new members on AF get banned the first day. Is this usual in other places as well?

We try to be transparent in our actions, especially when it's about bannings.

Most bannings are bots and are selling something and often in Russian.  We list them just like we list members who have posted and run afoul of the rules so that we can show that we aren't just banning people on a whim.

We generally post the name and the reason.

Additionally, salesbots and spambots don’t really qualify as ‘new members’.
