Today my government decided to stop its trade relation with Israel (We are the 6th economic partner of Israel + in the second half of the 20th century Israel was an important military and strategic partner as well – because of it being the only democracy in the sea of dictatorships in the Middle-East).

Facing reality is good: Israel started as an invasive power in the age of colonialism. No one can deny that. It came to an ethnically diverse geography where many faiths coexisted with one-another and with the use of brutal force, established itself in that region (destabilizing the whole region by doing so). The doctrine behind this is rather a religious one. I’m an archaeologist but I am asking: -Where are the remains of King Solomon’s powerful kingdom for instance? So I am not a denier nor a believer in the existence of the earlier Jewish state at this point.

 

Anyhow. Didn’t we solve this territory issue even back in 1948? What we did is: We took that pie, split it in half. Jews took half of it, Arabs took half of it.

 

So: Yes: The Arabs never agreed on the very existence of Israel.

But Yes: Jews never stopped trying to take all of Palestine.

 

They are a bit like the Greek far right: The Greek far right has always been pushing for the extension of Greek territories into Anatolia because historically, in antiquity all of the Now-Turkish littoral was Greek. (See image bellow).





 

So all I am asking is: “How is this different from what Putin is doing in Georgia right now?”

(Currently the Georgian parliament is passing a new law that restricts press freedoms and is contributing to putting the whole country back in the orbit of the Kremlin).

No, I do not agree. If ‘the world in general’ truly wanted an end to conflicts, there would BE no conflicts. And your notion that people don’t hate anyone is the worst kind of Pollyannic wishful thinking. Solving disagreements via violence is so common that it’s not unreasonable to call it part and parcel of the human psyche.
