In fairness, that's just what the Republican Party's been doing to everyone but rich, straight, white males since the turn of the millennium.
Vets over 55 and combat arms. In both cases it's not their military-ness that explains their support. Vets over 55 also happen to have alot of overlap with with the suburban trump vote, and combat arms have traditionally been drawn (and nearly exclusively drawn) from young white males in rural areas that are bastions of white supremacy. In both cases they have compelling personal reasons to believe in white replacement - even though those compelling personal reasons are utterly incorrect. Basically, more minorities moving into suburbs and the military's strong commitment to dei.
