It seems pretty clear that this, like so many problems, comes down to economics. Liberalism hasn't been serving the people well for quite a while now. (And by "liberalism" I mean the economic approach.) Widening income inequality, austerity, eroded public services, etc. etc., while the rich get richer.
It's natural for people to reject the status quo and look for alternatives which (they think) can forcefully straighten things out.
This is not to say that the right wingers and the racists really CAN improve anything. Only that they pretend they can, and people are desperate for change. It's easy to condemn all the Trump voters as idiots and racists, but we have to understand how he could appeal to people.

Quote:So I truly want to know your opinion about a possible second term of Joe Biden. You can trust me on that.
He has been the loyal hard-working servant of the banks and the corporations for decades now. He's 100% status quo, and anybody who has a memory longer than a goldfish knows that he's not a friend to progressives. Just one example: he worked hard to get Clarence Thomas on the Supreme Court.
When old people get to the stage he's at, it's no longer a slow decline. They tend to go downhill really fast. So the idea that he could do another four years is just laughable.
What we should really take away from the debate and its aftermath is that we can't trust the pro-Biden media. (We knew that already, but it's blatant this time.) Just weeks ago they were in lock-step telling us that he's sharper than he's ever been. And when that was revealed as an obvious lie, they turned on him in lock-step as well. But they've already started to change the spin yet again, so it's hard to predict what the rank and file Dems will be believing next week.
