So is taking out the garbage. Or working in the water san dept. Minimum wage is good enough for that, it's good enough for governance. I wouldn't mind it being average either, if we did away with "terms". Let them scramble like the rest of us, worried about their jobs on a daily basis. If we're going to even attempt some sort of parity pay is only one of the many sweetheart deals they've signed into law for themselves. Hey, there's another one. Maybe they shouldn't be able to vote on their own pay? Unless they want to extend that courtesy to us as well?
