A similar thing would happen if we left all immigrants in place and got rid of their second class status rather than trying to move a person. Ultimately, the complaint is that a business which itself contends that it's margins are based on farming people, rather than farming crops, will suffer. That part, at least, is hard to read as a bad thing. I don't believe them, ofc. Its not true that just because their businesses are so often based on fucking an unperson means that we have to do so to make the product, or make it at a similar price. It's more that it would cut out profitability in the middle. Production is pennies per pound on the cost of any given item at retail.
In florida, back in the day, there was a program to add a penny per pound for toatoes, which amounted to a 30 some odd percent increase in pay for labor. Didn't crash the tomato market. If the production cost of potatoes were 100% higher that would still only be 24c a pound. Etc etc etc.
