When would you say science appeared? I don't think it happened all at once, but I suppose that depends on how you're defining it.
For example Thomas Bradwardine, in the 14th century, used math and empirical experiment to discover a great deal about motion -- proving that Aristotle was wrong about that. He helped develop the mean speed theorem and the law of falling bodies, which is usually attributed to Galileo. He was also a theologian who had a long and successful career in the church.
And of course Newton wrote more about theology than about physics, but he's usually considered to be a good scientist.
So I wonder if the rise of science required the rejection of Christianity.

Not just Christianity. Science is based on reason, logic, and evidence, and so benefits from the rejection of ALL religion, superstition, and wishful thinking.
