And what if you want to take a photo? Or if you want to see the weather forecast for the next few hours? Or what if you see a star or planet in the night sky and you want to know which one is it? Or what if you're stuck somewhere in some waiting room and you want to read an ebook to pass the time? Or what if you see a plant growing and you want to find out what species it is? Or what if there's an airplane above you and you want to know which airplane it is? Or what if you see an insect and you want to know which species it is?
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"
