How often do you get a new phone?

RE: How often do you get a new phone?
Maybe i got the oldest Phone here, I use a Nokia 6150 from 1999 . ( Bought a box of 10 from them as they were the cheapest new phones after a few yrs. after release. I broke already 4 of ithem, sooo still 6 to go ! )
I dont need mobile Internet, i use my Phone exclusively to make and receive calls. For everything " Internet" i have 2 good Windows Laptops at home, one as main - one as backup ;my Mercedes came with a built in Navigation System, i dont use any social media - so what`s the need for a smartphone ?

What about listening to audiobooks, podcasts and music?

Or monitoring your bank account? Or paying for things like when you want to lend an electric street bike?
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

I don't know, this is my first phone.

I use my phone for a lot of things, the least of which making actual phone calls.

My car is a little older and has few bells and whistles, so I use a GPS program on my phone. I order and track orders from Amazon, check email, my bank balance, waste time on social media, and when I finally got out to travel last year I used it to listen to audiobooks.

Since I now have three laptops scattered throughout the house, I need to have access to the Interwebz when I am not home.

I am definitely not a typical phone user. I largely use my phone as a phone (imagine that). I'm not into texting and definitely not into using a phone with its tiny screen to browse the internet.

A very close summary of my own usage as well. I use my phone occasionally to get info online, but I hate long texting stuff. Other than that, staying in touch with my son and wider family, that's about it.

I'm the exact opposite. I rarely use my cellphone for calls. I mostly use it to look things up on the internet, primarily price checks and bus schedules.

When old one dies. I see no other reason for replacing phone.
The first revolt is against the supreme tyranny of theology, of the phantom of God. As long as we have a master in heaven, we will be slaves on earth.

Currently, I have the Samsung Galaxy A32.
I just recently replaced my Samsung Galaxy S8+, with a Samsung Galaxy S24+, I had the S8+ for about 8 years I think, from it's first release. The S8+ was still working, but had slowed down considerably, and the battery wasn't holding its charge as well, though it still worked of course, but due to work commitments I decided to replace it, as I can't be without a phone, and regularly have to travel for work, and work long hours.

I didn't know which model I have; I had to look. Samsung A13. I resisted my wife's urgings to buy something with more of whatever one gets with more money. I use it about 30 minutes per week, and make NO financial transactions with it.

I dont listen to music " on the go " , that makes me unaware of my surroundings !
Otherwise i have some selection fof movies and music on my laptop - for use when i am in a hotel room or so .

Banking from a mobile Phone ? No, i only use my staitionary laptop at home and a secure 3 factor authencitation when doing a banktransfer or so. Otherwise i draw money once a month with my card, paying 99% of my things cash.
( Germany is one of the left over cash societies, the 2024 numbers say that 78 % of all transactions under € 100.- ( USD 102 ) had been in cash....)

And what if you want to take a photo? Or if you want to see the weather forecast for the next few hours? Or what if you see a star or planet in the night sky and you want to know which one is it? Or what if you're stuck somewhere in some waiting room and you want to read an ebook to pass the time? Or what if you see a plant growing and you want to find out what species it is? Or what if there's an airplane above you and you want to know which airplane it is? Or what if you see an insect and you want to know which species it is?
