Apparently, the survey in that area was done between the 1960's and 80's... and, by the late 80's, it was obvious that the USSR couldn't continue, so they couldn't explore anything.

This is why everyone is supporting Ukraine. This is why everyone is standing with Zelensky and no one is standing with Donald Trump.
As far as I see it, it's very similar to what the US has been doing since the 50's, where they just want to have that "sphere of influence"... oh, and resources.
Remember that they had a framework in place that imposed on Saudi Arabia that they would have to sell their oil in US dollars... that lasted for 50 years and ended last year.
