Director Scott Derrickson and co-writer C. Robert Cargill (partners on both Black Phone movies, Sinister, and Sinister 2), who both identify as Christians, say that horror movies automatically turn viewers into Christians, at least for the film's run time.

He's sort of right. It's called suspension of disbelief. It works for any piece of fiction. If you sit through the Lord of the Rings movies, you accept that it takes place in a universe where magic is real. You watch Raiders of the Lost Ark and you pretend it is real. It's necessary to enjoy the movie.
