Internet users are once again shocked to discover the Mercator Projection.

This Woman Just Exposed The Biggest Lie On The World Map, And Millions Of Americans Are At Their Wits’ End

A viral video about the world map has left lots of people feeling defeated and questioning a lot of things right now:

“As a homeschool mom, I don’t even know what to teach my kids anymore. All our history books are trash at this point.”

TikTok user vankovajaja posted the video of herself holding a map, saying, "So, these are the kind of things that make me really upset, right? So, the width of Africa is 7,300 kilometers. The width of Russia is 6,300 kilometers."

She explains further, "Okay, check it out: Canada, USA, South America, Europe, Russia, China, India. This is to be portrayed as Africa. You can fit Russia twice inside of Africa. Plus, you can fit China in there, India, all of Europe, and USA. Does Africa look like over here that you can fit all of it in there? No."

On a Mercator projection, Greenland often looks like it is the same size as Africa, but Africa is actually about 14 times larger!!!

All this being said, the specific measurements mentioned in the video need some clarification. Africa’s widest point is about 7,400 kilometers across, while Russia actually stretches about 9,000 kilometers from west to east, not 6,300 kilometers as stated in the viral TikTok.
