I was converted to christianity in my first year at University and I had some problems with it.
I accepted being celibate for my entire life but kept asking questions. I was told, "it's your cross to bear", but it seemed so unfair. I didn't choose to be gay, yet I'm punished if I accept it?
Then I'd get told, "homosexuality does not occur in nature, therefore it's unnatural". Except... many years AFTER I left that group, I find out it DOES occur in nature therefore it is natural.
And they wonder why I'm hostile to them?
After I left I slowly deprogrammed myself. At first, I suppressed it all and it felt miserable. I finally talked to a counsellor and that helped me come to terms with it.
I've been with my current partner over 20 years now. I do worry that the world will turn again and I may find myself outlawed again. 8(
Depending on which country you're from, your sexuality will not be outlawed within your lifetime.
