I've been watching more of the series.
What's clear is that humans would not need to disappear completely, merely reducing the numbers significantly would be enough. Simple neglect would be enough for say Miami Beach to disappear (decades) and the New York subways to fill with water( months)
OR say the Scenario at the end of "The Day The Earth Stood Still":
Everything electrical just stopped working: Planes fell out of the sky,people with pacemakers dropped dead.No computers. No satellites. No cars.No light or air conditioning. Worst of all NO WATER in most cites,as pumping stations would just stop. Cities would become deserted within a few weeks. Decay would start at once at every aspect of society.
