I think it's not what you think it is. The article as I understand it is talking mainly about the social pressures placed on people when they are in the presence of the opposite sex. We want to avoid making a bad impression with what our brains are hardwired to interpret as potential sex partners, whether such interpretations are contextually valid or not. If the research is accurate, it's the sort of thing commonly exemplified by adolescent boys getting tongue-tied in the presence of a pretty girl, or a beach romeo showing off to a gaggle of equally-pretty bikini-fillers.
The only connection between this social phenomenon and viewing pornography or being somehow tainted by mixing with the opposite sex is being made by you. There's certainly no connection to any religious affiliation. And if you think that having segregated areas on an internet forum is the solution, then all I can say is your prejudice is showing.
