I was not comparing gay partnerships with animal partnerships, I was simply pointing out the logic involved. Any minority group can justify redefinition of existing norms in order to include them. Failure to do so induces cries of opression and intolerance. If a woman really loved her cat and insisted it loved her back and wanted to make a commitment in public, calling it marriage would be wrong, call it cattage, fine, but calling it marriage is to diminish the sacrament of marriage. Let marriage remain marriage without redefinition and use other terms to describe other forms of relationship.

If an institution does not want to marry a homosexual or even a heterosexual couple, fine, whatever, we now know they are douchebags. But few would say no, they want your fucking $$£$£$£ and bumbandits make up about 6% of population here in UK (wiki), thats a big $£ potential gain. Let's face it, Churches in the UK need money, they're closing quicker than my bitch's legs.
Very true, the Churches losing credibility and closing are the very churches that would accept gay marriage, the Catholic Church is still very strong, worldwide and in the UK. That in itself is telling..
