Regardless of how loudly they may have been talking, wading in as you say you did is downright rude; unless they were being disruptive, in which case you had the right to ask them - politely - to keep the noise down and be considerate to other diners, and that is all.
They welcomed me into the conversation, then started with the same bull I hear on this site, I was more than glad to point out their errors, when they asked me questions I gave them answers they could not refute, one of them seemed like a nice person then there was one that tried to be a butt, and the third got out off the conversation so after we started.
God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.
