Nope, your Bible is suggesting thats exactly what he was doing during that time period: Intervening or as you would put it "babysitting".
Now, considering that Lot was rather important to God as demonstrated by God getting him out of a town before he massacred it and everyone in it including his wife:
Why did he not see fit to intervene in this instance?
Infact, he knew this would happen if he killed his wife. Hes supposed to be omnipotent.
So yeah, explain.
