Suppose theres only two candidates and both are atheists but only one is pro-abortion.

The point being made was that voting for a politician based purely on whether they're a Christian, Muslim, deist, atheist, or whatever is stupid and that what matters is their policies. He wasn't saying that he wouldn't vote for someone if they were religious or that they should have to keep it secret, merely that it's irrelevant to their politics.

I thought both gentlemen were self-professing Christians.

He's a mormon, so Jesus isn't the only guy he follows, he shares a platform with Joseph Smith.

Last time I visited an LDS church the place was full of pictures of Jesus Christ.
