I actually must award catfish a couple points for questioning the literal truth of every word of the bible. Buy you go right on calling him on it if you like. I don't have a dog in this fight.
Scientists no doubt do sometimes differ on which theory best fits the available evidence. Of course, if both of them are doing science the right way they would likely be able to each articulate the relative merits of each of the competing theories fairly. Is that true for you two as well? Can you each fairly describe the merits of the other's point of view and say how each is consistent with Christian theology generally? Otherwise I don't think it is much of a comparison.
