Just to clarify your point 1, if I may: I don't think it was that science falsified the bible so much that science enabled humanity to grow up and learn about the reality of the Universe, its sheer scale and what makes it tick. It's the bible that got left behind, unable to evolve and thus survive in the face of our expanding knowledge. It's the main failure of the bible to correspond to reality. Just a subtle distinction, perhaps, but creationists and other literalists just love to play up the so-called conflict between science and the bible.
