Because the "liberal" media is cowardly and afraid of being accused of painting the fealty of the military to the civilian state in anything that could even remotely be interpreted as unfavorable night.
This is despite the fact that the right wing has consciously, systematically, persistently, and to a degree incompatible with a true civilian republic - successfully, exploited the particular mindset cultivated in American military culture to break the military's fealty to the civilian state and make the military a political appendage of a party.
I think the many fractions of Republican party seeks to create such a systematic biase in the military as to make the position of any democratic president as commander in chief of the armed forces nearly untenable. Not a military dictatorship, but a one party rule with the military as an integral part of its power base and as a soft garrantor of its hold on power.
