Quote:One could no more formulate good public policy by taking a neutral stance on religion as one could by taking a neutral stance on murder, fraud, and gross child abuse.Meaning you lump religion along with crimes such as murder, fraud and child abuse?
Obviously you did not understand my words.
Quote:Belief in God and the Judeo / Christian faith is still very much a part of our culture here with 76% to 80% of Americans identifying themselves as Christians. Though most don't consider it paramount in their lives, "A majority of Americans report that religion plays a "very important" role in their lives,". I don't think that dropping God from their party platform and dropping the line that stated Jerusalem is and always shall be the capital of Israel is going to go over very well with some voters. Anything that leftist Democrats can do to undermine themselves is fine with me....It might not be the best vote-magnet, but it's the right thing to do.
Besides, the subject of Israel and Jerusalem is a matter of foreign policy, not religion.
Religious freedom is based on religious neutrality by the government.
Besides, if you vote according to the religious policy of a party(positive or negative stance, doesn't matter), I believe you shouldn't vote at all, for it means you generally don't care about what real governance is, just what kind of a religious overtone the party carries with it.
Quote:Couldn't have said it better myself. I'm not going to tell anyone to stop believing but we in the US seriously need to get the wall between Church and State built up much higher because Church has been invading State a lot lately. When people think of secularism, they generally think of just seperating the church and state. Secularism also means that religion stays between the individual and his God. Other than the church having no power over the state, neither does the state have a power of the individual believer.
