While it was only once course, I found it had a lot more truth to it than the many theological classes I was forced to take, so I am proud to say I'm an atheist as of last year. However, my parents are both strong Christians, as well as my sister. I love them so much, but their ignorance is just painful to hear. My mom's always signing me up for Bible studies, church events, and youth group. I'm just sick and tired of attending all these Christian events whenever I have free time, since I don't even believe in God anymore. However, I have a very positive relationship with my parents, and I don't want to lose that. If I told them my beliefs, I'm afraid that I will. I mean seriously, they had an intervention when they found out I was nice to gay people. -_- Any suggestions?
Well it looks like things will completely change for you should you come out. I'd say you should keep it quite until you have independence. Being in the same household and with them knowing about it, could prove nasty.
It's a shame they are so intolerant, it just shows how weak and insecure their faith is.
I think you should keep quite and wait until the time is right.
Shame you don't live over here. Religion has no power here. Most don't believe in god and those who do couldn't give a shit. I'd hate to be in your situation.
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence - Carl Sagan
Mankind's intelligence walks hand in hand with it's stupidity.
Being an atheist says nothing about your overall intelligence, it just means you don't believe in god. Atheists can be as bright as any scientist and as stupid as any creationist.
You never really know just how stupid someone is, until you've argued with them.
