Quote:Let me get this bit straight though; you can quote the Bible, yet others earn a measure of disdain in your eye by quoting "others to validate thier own points...". How exactly does this work without invoking the word 'hypocrisy'?It doesn't Hence "My self included" comment. On the otherhand I have not adopted the handel of "free thinker" either, a title most of you award yourself.
Quote:Who quotes 'what' for the validation of your beliefs? When was the last time you quoted the gospels of Thomas, Judas, or Mary Magdelene? In a discussion with fallen to reason. I believe He misquoted from one of those gospel and I corrected and clarified that quote. (which was the last time I quoted anything outside the 66 books on this web site.)
Quote: Are you now going to tell me that a fourth century Roman Emperor (Constantine), trying his best to consolidate power, didn't help dictate the canon to his advantage? If he did his efforts failed.
Quote:How does it feel? This is a serious question. How does it feel to abdicate your soul to a book and it's consequent traditions knowing that both were the product of musings of men two thousand years ago. Have you considered this?Indeed i have. I have found comfort in my dedication, because God has reassured me of my desisions.
Quote: What of the other fact that there are always 'other' men demanding feliance and tything. No cause for concern? The reason 'other men' can get an audience to give them what they ask, is people like the op are more than willing to hand their minds over to someone who seemingly can give them freedom they want. The same is true apart from any affiliation one may have with God.
You are wrong. Historians say that it;s because of the Roman Emperor asking for a complete Bible that the canon was made up. That is one of the factors that even evangelical scholars accept as a part of the formation history of the canon. See FF Bruce, The Canon of Scriptures.
You also said "God reassured you of your decisions". Can you please tell me how he went about doing that and what it was that made you certain it was God.
