They should do a 1:1 adaption; i.e., if someone in the book travels for a month then that part in movie should also last for one month. You could spend 12 hours watching someone have an extended nap! Of course, you'd probably need a nap yourself during their nap. You could pause the movie, have your nap, and then resume watching their nap. 
You could watch sitting on a beanbag full of popcorn. Though the more you eat the more uncomfortable you'd become...
