I agree with most of that accept the "ungrateful" part. I don't think it is ungratefull, for example, just because you raise a child for them to come to their own conclusions or want something different than you. I understand what you are saying, but that is an ambiguous can of worms that often leads to appeal to authority, and that isn't aways good. But I do like the rest of it.
Authority as as an atult can only match the compassionate side of evolution when it is via consent. Appeal to authority without that consent is the dark side of evolution.
I do not know about your youth. But from what I see, our youth is most ungrateful, indeed. Their own conclusions or what I expect from them is not relevant. As you can read, I said "we", I speak in plurals, never in singulars. It's not appealing to authority either: the man who had said this word has defied many a ruling power, simply because he saw the ungratefulness in them, therefore he appealed to the youth of his days as not to be as them, as the youth is the authority of tomorrow, true?
