Authority as as an atult can only match the compassionate side of evolution when it is via consent. Appeal to authority without that consent is the dark side of evolution.
I do not know about your youth. But from what I see, our youth is most ungrateful, indeed. Their own conclusions or what I expect from them is not relevant. As you can read, I said "we", I speak in plurals, never in singulars. It's not appealing to authority either: the man who had said this word has defied many a ruling power, simply because he saw the ungratefulness in them, therefore he appealed to the youth of his days as not to be as them, as the youth is the authority of tomorrow, true?
Nope, still don't like it because you do need to be ungrateful sometimes in order to buck the social norms to improve that society, otherwise the powers that be can and will always keep you in your place with the word "ungrateful".
"Learn from the past" says the same thing without the ambiguity or the stagnation.
I cant see any other law document outside the Constitution that reflects that attitude. You don't have to be an uncle tom and as Susan B Said "Well behaived women seldom make history".
If they accepted their leaders when they said "your being ungrateful" nothing would change.
I think what you are needlessly doing is pointing out hypocrisy. Part of human behavior is that we cant always be consistant every second of our lives and often hold opposite positions at the same time.
For example, I can see both the sides of the immigration issue. Too many people we cant keep track of can screw things up, especially the violent ones. But I also know that humans will always seek out resorces so I cant lose my compassion and forget that.
Our youth are unfortunatly woefully educated, and our crime is a much hire rate. But I don't see that as much the kids fault as society not building better conditions.
Where I see most of the ungratefulness is in the suburbs and high end. Far too many people who get to that point scapegoat those with less.While it is true no one owes you anything on a personal level, it is sick to take from a society and not give back.
