I find this thread fascinating because I can't actually understand why certain people feel so horrible when they realize that their life isn't essential to the universe.
So the world is not tailored to your desires: what's so scary about it? It simply means that in order to get something, you have to work for it, and you can't expect miracles to happen (they don't). So you're going to die one day. So are we. Nobody can avoid death, we're all in the same boat. The important thing is not your death, but your life. Enjoy it while you can.
There's also a third way: life can be a bitch, but it can also be amazing. Cherish the good stuff and forget about the bad stuff.
