Upon second reading, that charming little anecdote carries a pair of chilling implications:
1: God was hell-bent on that stabbing taking place. One way or another, somebody was getting a new hole. The moral of the story is, if you accept God, it just means somebody else will get stabbed instead of you.
2: Maybe God was giving you the chance to suffer, to be a hero and take one for someone else's benefit, and you opted instead to let someone suffer for you. Isn't he supposed to work in mysterious ways like that?
How heartwarming. <3
