To these gun huggers, NO ONE WANTS TO TAKE YOUR GUNS AWAY FROM YOU!
BUT, think about this. If you are to hold a weapon in law enforcement, or in the military, you are under oversight and review to insure you can handle the job and handle the weapon. No one simply hires a cop without vetting them.
This is utter bullshit along the same corporate lines car companies bitched about when Nadar complained about the lack of safety in vehicals. He wasn't anti car just because he was pro seat belt and pro speed limits.
Now the other bullshit excuse is that people can kill with other types of weapons such as knives. YEA so? But in evolution even outside our species, the predator will seek the path of least resistance to prevent harm to itself. A knife is harder to kill someone with because it requires close proximity and more risk of injury to the person using it. A gun is much quicker and allows for distance. Even a shark takes a bite, especially if not familiar with it's target, swims away, and waits till it's target goes limp to investigate. A lion goes for the neck to immobilize it's prey and uses it's weight and choking to keep it's victim under control.
It isn't gun ownership most object to. It is the lack of good policy. Our current gun laws are like roads and highways with no medians, traffic lights, or directional flow laws. "Do what you want"
