I never really asked myself any questions about god nore about his morals or existance.
The main reason I became an atheist in the first place was not due to a philosophical point or any rational argument over god.
It was due to what I saw in my surrounding world what was done in the name of god.
It was much later I came to reject it`s teachings.
I spend my day thinking of alot of other things.
"What will I eat tonight?",
"Who is that redhead?",
"Should I shave my beard?",
"When will it finaly be summer",
"Only 5 more days until "The Walking Dead" airs again!",
"What will happen in the next season of Mad Men?",
"Why is Far Cry 3 such a short game?",
"When will annik be online on skype?",
"Should I start playing minecraft?",
"Why do german philosophers write their works deliberatly in a way that no one understands them?",
"Mhmmm ice cream."
God simply is absolutly irrelevant for my life to continue or be lived.

I don't think there are many atheists that would dissagree. But ignoring the theists that do vote and do get into public office and the religious that do try to influence politics would be unwise to ignore.
In that sense we may not rid the world of it, but to ignore it would be unwise.
